The Ponzini Family gets fuzzier!!
April was a rough month around here. The normally healthy Ponzini family just couldn't catch a break and all three of us were sick at least twice. Between allergies, fevers and gastro-intestinal bugs.....we were all home together a lot and taking a lot of medicine.
Lou and I handled this all ok, but Chris had a reaction to taking Claritin for his allergies. Well it was either the Claritin or the few days he spent on the sofa feeling miserable, but something caused him to make a very out of character decision.
Chris decided that he wanted to adopt a kitten!!! He looked up the websites of our local shelters and started his search. It didn't take too long browsing through the pictures of kitties in need of homes with him before I was on board with the idea. (You can't show a pregnant woman a baby "anything" and expect her to not want to mother it!!)
So the "kitten" that we decided to take home turned out to be "kitten sisters". Yup, that right, we got two instead of one. Chris fell in love with a super soft gray kitty and I loved how playful and sweet her black and white sister was. It just didn't seem right to separate such sweet sisters. And besides, "sister" was a new term to the Ponzini household, so Chris and I thought we could incorporate that as a learning tool for Lou......bringing "baby sisters" home to big brother cat Plato.
We filled out the paperwork, paid our fees and got approved to adopt the kitties. They were sent to a nearby vets office to be spayed and micro chipped before we could take them home. Lou and I went together to pick them up, bringing along our kitty kennel. Unfortunately because of the anesthesia the kitties were given, neither of them could tolerate to be near the other......so our trip home was pretty eventful. To avoid the hissy fit that ensued when they were put in the kennel together, I let them loose in the van for the ride home. It was not a fun journey and I really started to worry that we had made a bad choice by adopting two kittens who now seemed to hate each other.
We got them home and in the house ok. It wasn't very long before they were off exploring their new environment.....while stopping to hiss at each other occasionally. Both kitties were sweet and affectionate to all of us, but had major issues with being too close to each other....not to mention they did not like Plato either.
As we spent time with the kitties and got to know them, and what they liked, names just seemed very clear. This first picture is Shadow checking out Lou's playroom. Shadow is the very soft kitty that Chris picked out and she earned her name by following me everywhere and wanting to be in the center of whatever I was doing for the entire first few days that she was home with us.

This picture here is Princess, checking out the other side of Lou's playroom. Princess is a very affectionate kitty and she will not only come when you call her but will touch your face with her nose to give you kisses and will put her paws on each side of your neck to hug you. She is also quite dainty and delicate but at the same time kind of clumbsy and lacking in the grace department, haha.

Here is Shadow again. She is very much aware of who picked her out and will very demandingly follow Chris around at any given chance to share her affections with him.

And here's my Princess, never one to pass up an opportunity to be surrounded in luxury!

Shadow has the same playful nature that Plato had as a kitten, so Lou was thrilled when I brought home a long kitty toy that he could drag around to get Shadow to chase. So here Shadow sits taking a break with her favorite toy. It is so funny to see her dragging it across the room to try to keep it for herself.

Princess is much more the cuddly type, and I am very grateful that she is so tolerant of Lou.
